Michele Wagner
Producer / Director / Playwright / Lyricist

From early childhood, Michele has pursued her love of the performing arts. She studied acting in college, graduating with a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. Fresh out of college she was hired to work with a children's theatre company, Theatre IV touring throughout Virginia. Three years later she moved to the New York metro area to test her skills in the big city. After a recurring role on Law and Order, the female lead in a film called Chamber Music and study abroad at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Michele landed her first role in Corporate America. Within six months she was promoted to management overseeing a team of seven, all with far more experience then she. Ah, the acting came in handy! She threw away all her pictures and resumes and decided to quit acting altogether…or so she thought.

A move to the quiet beauty of the woods in Upstate New York a few years later, once again ignited Michele's passion to create. She landed the lead in an original musical performed in New York's Hudson Valley. She then went on to make her directorial debut with a full-length feature film called, This Place Of Love . . . co-producing the film with her two creative partners. During that same time, Michele began working on her dream, a rock opera about the life of Mary Magdalene and the return of the feminine. Looking through old journals, Michele began to see how long she had been writing down snatches of lyrics. Serendipitously, an accomplished lyricist, Johanna Hall, was offering a lyric writing course in her area. Michele was soon enrolled and before long she was not only writing lyrics, but was coming up with the melodies and performing her songs before live audiences.

Although Michele continues to perform, she is finding great pleasure in writing and directing. In addition to finishing the libretto for the rock opera, Magdalene, Woman of Light in June of '07, she has expanded her writing skills to include a screenplay, which is currently nearing completion. In summer of ‘05, she saw her dream start to unfold, directing a Preview of Magdalene at the first Boulder International Fringe Festival. In November 2007, a Staged Reading of the completed opera was performed at the Boulder Dinner Theatre for an invited audience of 300. Michele served as Producer and Director for the first full production of Magdalene, Woman of Light, launched in October 2008 at the New Denver Civic Theatre. All fifteen performances received standing ovations.

She continues to work in the Environmental Division of a global company helping to guide them toward sustainability, but finds that her life's blood is in creating and the performing arts are the best expression of that for her.
